Bottom line
Backcountry Access always have done a good job of integrating an avalanche probe with a snow shovel. The Arsenal shovels hides a 240 cm probe inside its shaft. Great value for the money spent.
Use(r) suitability
The BCA Arsenal compact combo saves additional space in your pack, so anyone concerned with storage room will like it. More experienced users might opt for a longer probe if they ski in deep snow packs but otherwise this two-in-one tool will satisfy any user.
Product description
Backcountry Access Arsenal combo – snow shovel with an integrated avalanche probe – is fully made of aluminum. Both the shovel and probe are very durable yet together are lighter than almost any combination of the two tools currently on the market.
The Arsenal shovel’s large blade is perfectly suitable for moving lots of snow in short time and the long shaft with a T-grip style handle create a nice leverage for weight of snow the scoop can carry.
The 240 cm avalanche probe has easily recognizable orange top that is part of the shovel handle when the probe is inside the shaft. This is useful when leaving the probe in the snow to mark the burial. The probe also features depth markers every centimeter which are handy when doing your snow pack observations.
